Snippet: Orc In Winter
“Good morning, cousin. We have you safely hidden for now, and Goddess willing, will move you north out of harm's way in a few short days.”
The Orc grimaced. “It was my job to protect you, Tad. Not be coddled like yon babe.”
“You will one day be at full strength and protect me again. This is but for a season.” She raised her eyebrows at him. “If it was a sword wound you would not fuss so much.”
Sherrow scowled. “Honey bread pudding. I was laid low by a sweet.”
Morwenna hid a smile. She did not expect an Orc to sound so much like a sulky child.
Those are some interesting endearments. Great snippet. By the way, I love the cover and title.
ReplyDeleteLoved her last sentence. So true. If a man's going to be wounded, he'd rather it be with a masculine weapon rather than something ordinary. :) Nice snippet!
ReplyDeleteThat cover is delish! Love the interplay between them, the trust edged with his wounded pride. Nice tease.
ReplyDeletehehe, I have a sweet tooth too.
ReplyDeleteLaid low by pudding. I can relate to that, especially after a Thanksgiving feast. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty amusing snippet and so perfect for a week wherein we've probably all eaten too much! He's a most unusual Orc all right!
ReplyDeleteHoney bread pudding sounds great, but not if it makes me sick.
ReplyDeleteLove the 'laid low by a pudding' line! intriguing and amusing little snippet, and I agree about the cover, it's so atmospheric!
ReplyDeleteThat Orc is definitely having a hard time with being down and out. A fun snippet!
