When a colonel realizes he’s lost control of his squad.
What happens when a good colonel discovers he has abandoned his squad to a captain unfit to command? He blames himself and thinks about resigning due to his utter failure to protect his squad.
Every member of the squad, except for Alisha, doesn’t believe the colonel can save them from an early death if they piss DC off. And frankly they ’re correct. Unfortunately, Colonel Logan has a general who thinks he’s the problem. Every time Logan attempts to modify DC’s behavior, the captain sends a complaint to General Powel and Logan gets slammed by the General.
His crew knows DC is the one who holds the power, and if they want to live, they had better keep him happy. So when DC decides Alisha should crash and die on the ridge, his crew obeys his orders. When Alisha survives the crash, and he orders them to run it again, she does something no sane person would ever do. She flies into the wind farm. Even for Alisha the chances of surviving were slim, but she knew death would be certain on the ridge.
By a miracle, she survived and landed in the massive 200,000-acre wind farm. But DC couldn’t let her leave the wind farm alive. Unlike his crew, she was not broken, and would undoubtedly bring charges against him.

Meet MAC: The Artifical Intelligence that runs the SkyRyders Corps.
Upon seeing her arrival, MAC upgrades Alisha’s test. Her flying skills are not just excellent; they exceed what was previously thought possible. MAC classifies her as its top asset and soon she proves her value.
But… the SkyRyders remain a male dominated Corps where Alisha’s sense of right and wrong often clashes with her superiors. How long can a rebellious young woman survive in a regimented Corps?
Excerpt
“Sir, if you have opened an official inquiry into today’s events, according to regulations, as captain, I should be running the investigation.”
“You might want to reread your regs again, Captain. As commanding officer, I may take lead on any inquiry I deem necessary.”
DC still didn’t back down. “I must officially object to your interference in my command again, sir.”
“Object all you like, Captain. I trust you know the procedure as well as any soldier in the Corps.”
“Regulations still allow me to be present during the interviews, sir.”
“No, Captain. They certainly do not.”
“Sir, Regulation 4.593 states— ”
Logan cut him off. “You obviously missed the exceptions to the reg . An officer will be excluded from any inquiry that may implicate said officer in possible infractions or misjudgments.”
DC paused before replying but still looked as if he expected to win the argument. “I was under the impression this concerned the actions leading to the injury of Trainee Kane.”
“That is correct.”
“Then respectfully, sir, I must point out the regulations exempt you from opening the inquiry.”
“How so, Captain?” Logan asked, truly amazed at DC’s objection. This bastard sure as hell didn’t back down.
“Because, sir, it was you who recruited and placed into my squad an untrained and unlicensed flyer. The fact she came to harm during exercises today is solely your responsibility.”
“Then you don’t consider your own actions in any way at fault?”
“No, sir, I have a duty to my crew and the Corps not to lower the standards of training. To do so would endanger every man on my squad. I believe it better we weed out inferior trainees immediately. Just because you’re screwing her doesn’t make her a flyer. If you want to keep her here as your whore, I’ll turn a blind eye. But I can’t let you place her on the squad, sir. She’s not fit. She proved that today.” Then he smiled.
It took every bit of Logan’s control not to pound DC’s smirking face into the wall. He knew that was precisely what the bastard wanted. One blow, and an official inquiry would be started on him, and his own inquiry would be placed on hold until resolution of the new charge. And the hall camera would nail him as guilty.
When he finally had control, he gave DC his coldest smile. “You no doubt meant to goad me with your absurd claim, but it won’t work.”

About the Author
Liza O’Connor lives in Denville, NJ with her dog Jess. They hike in fabulous woods every day, rain or shine, sleet or snow. Having an adventurous nature, she learned to fly small Cessnas in NJ, hang-glide in New Zealand, kayak in Pennsylvania, ski in New York, scuba dive with great white sharks in Australia, dig up dinosaur bones in Montana, sky dive in Indiana, and raft a class four river in Tasmania. She’s an avid gardener, amateur photographer, and dabbler in watercolors and graphic arts. Yet through her entire life, her first love has and always will be writing novels.
