This is from Prisma, a story in the Diaspora Worlds, set on Dooley's ship around the time of Cirque Du Cyborgs (working title).
7Ay sat in her sleeping cubicle after midmeal and pulled out the bound book Lirielle had given her to scribble in, like a small child. Record thoughts and feelings, draw pictures. Doodle. Maybe the simple acts would someday jar the memories from her closed mind, the medtechs had said. 7Ay wondered if she would ever remember her human past. Perhaps her brain was too damaged to remember.
Awww, very bittersweet and evocative. Makes me want to keep reading of course - excellent excerpt!
ReplyDeleteMakes the reader wonder what happened in her childhood. We all have that shared experience. I think it draws in the reader. Nice.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I wonder what she's going to discover and how she got to where she is now.
ReplyDeleteI love it when authors set side stories within their worlds! Thanks for sharing, Melissa.
