SciFi Fantasy Saturday Snippet

My entry this week is from my upcoming release, Starwoman's Sanctuary. Meet Krishal~

He looked human, except for the feathers.  His skin tone was actually a light brown,  similar to many humans, but instead of eyelashes and eyebrows he had very small fine feathers and his eyes were a brilliant teal, not unlike the feathers running down his back.
The bird man reached behind himself and pulled something out of his tail area. He held it close to the glass so Skyleen and Arla could see it well. It was a clear iridescent  fan-shaped scale. The curved edge looked razor sharp.

He moved, shuffling  his feet and sweeping  his feathered tail and then shot the scale through the air until it tapped the glass. He did it several times until understanding dawned.
The bird man would shuffle his feet, wave his tail and those  sharp scales would fly. He intended to fight back against their captors.

I like the description of the movements and mannerisms of the bird man. I think you've brought him (it?) to life without going overboard with the set up - certainly realistic from your snippet. Great work!

Great description in a very nice snippet. I'm wondering what the scale is?

Also, having been attacked by a rooster when I was three, I have a healthy and deep respect for male birds as fighters...

Intriguing situation and creature - I have great respect for someone who can create an interesting and believably alien being. Looking forward to seeing more of this.
