Labor Day Weekend--no Labor allowed!

Susan Elizabeth Phillip's Chicago Stars books are a favorite read. Somewhere in my romancelandia surfing I heard about Deirdre Martin's Blades books. Now, I am no huge sports fanatic, but the sports/athlete hero does appeal to me. So far I have enjoyed this series so I am anticipating this read!

I was thrilled to see a new Harmony futuristic!

Cool cover, too.

The Bad News:

My eye situation is not over. In a week I have a procedure that will help but disturb my vision for a week or so. After that I see a new doc and start systemic treatment, and get new eyeglasses, since my vision has changed.

The Good News:

I sent a submission off to Nocturne Bites, and should have another off to Aspen Mountain Press later this week!

What's Next:

I have two novellas in a futuristic series I've been sitting on awhile. I plan to edit and submit these next, not sure where. This is a series surrounding five brothers, whose mother is a planetary leader called the Protectorate-- the series is called Sons of the Protectorate.

Don't Ignore Sudden Vision Changes!

I had a scare this weekend concerning my eyesight. I have never been concerned about my sight. I do wear glasses or contacts but there was nothing unusual at all about that.

Earlier this month I had some bright flashes in my vision. I thought it was glare since I work on a computer. No pain at all. then on Friday I noticed some tiny pepper like spots in my right eye vision field. Again, no pain. Figured it was those 'floaters' you hear about. But in the morning I started having odd, string like floaters, and while I was doing dishes, the vision in my right eye suddenly blurred. I knew it couldn't be eye strain from the computer because I'd been cleaning and running errands all day,

I called Ask A Nurse, and she advised me to go to the ER. Before I went I looked my symptoms up online to see if this was really nothing. I hate the Er. But there was mention of BLINDNESS.

I went to the ER. The original doctor kind of blew it all off,"Floaters are normal." But then an older doctor I've seen before in the ER (He did my last heart conversion in April) got me into an ophthalmologist on Sunday since the hospital doesn't have the specialized eye equipment.

Turns out I have an inflammation in both eyes and several small tears in the right eye, which caused the spots, floaters and flashes. The ophthalmologist did a lazer procedure to prevent the tears from getting larger. I also have drops for the inflammation and follow up appointments etc.

Quite a wake up call for a writer. I can't imagine not being able to read novels or use a computer--not to mention all the other things a severe vision loss would affect!

So, please, don't ignore sudden vision changes!

Domestic Chaos

August is here and in Wyoming this is the time to replant your lawn. Since my lawn is a patch of weeds growing in sand, we made the big decision to roto-till it up, add lots of stuff, like actual topsoil from a bag, and replant. So my front yard is a muddy mess, but the bag of grass seed assures me I will have real grass in two weeks!

Other Big News--the kitten rescue! My tortoiseshell kitty Peaches had a litter since we were too late in getting her to the vet. She decided to have them in a crawl space that she got into from a five foot high shelf. Hmmm, we think, how will the baby kitties ever get out to find new homes?

I own two cats simply because, when people came to see them, they hid. The idea of adding six hidden cats to my household was not a pleasant thought.

So my oldest daughter(15 & 3/4yrs) came to the rescue. We would unbolt the access, and she would crawl through the 3 foot high space and bring the kittens out. YAY!

She dressed for the job in ragged blue jeans, knit winter gloves and a bandana to keep spiders out of her hair. We put a soft rag in a shoe box, so she could haul the kittens all at once.

My twins( 13 & 11/12ths yrs) took down the access and commence squealing. They hear the kittens!

Caitlin grabs an old Christmas tree in a thick trash bag, stored there for years, and leaps back! "Get me scissors!" she hollers .

She cuts open the bag, and there are the kittens, three gray tigers and one solid blue gray.

Mama and kittens are doing well in big box lined with a fleece blanket, in a closet.
